Friday May 18th, 2007: Issue #802
This is going to be a short issue today for two reasons.
The first is that I’m about to leave to go up to London for the London Lunch - a gathering of Internet marketers that I organize every couple of months.
That in itself shouldn’t have delayed Kickstart, since I was up at 6 AM ready to start writing!
What has eaten up my time this morning was a book I bought, intending to read on the train later on.
‘Unfortunately’ I started reading it before I printed it out and got hooked.
Now I’ve finished the book and my head is spinning with ideas, but I’m fast running out of writing time.
Lesson to be learned (again): don’t get distracted!

I have two credit cards. One is with a bank who call me on the phone if I’m late paying (I get very forgetful these days). They are very friendly and understanding and let me pay over the phone. They have never charged me a late fee,
The other card is with a bank who only ever call me up when they want to sell me something. If I am late paying they charge me exorbitant fees.
As I don’t particularly like credit cards at all, I’m about to close one of the accounts. One card is going to be quite enough for me.
Guess which one I’ll keep.

Feedback on Success Engineering has been extremely good again. I think I get more positive (make that positively excited) emails when I mention Phil Gosling’s book than I do for any other that I ever talk about.
Everyone wants to know where I saw my blue feather! (You have to read the book to know what that means).
The first time it just appeared at the top of my stairs, the second time it was stuck to a taxi’s roof!

Want to know what the book is that has had me glued to my monitor for the last couple of hours? Generally I don’t much like reading ebooks on the screen. I use up a lot of paper and ink printing them out. But this one hooked me in and I just had to keep reading until I finished.
The book is called AdWords180.
It explains, very clearly, a method of getting very cheap clicks from Google AdWords that I, quite honestly, didn’t know existed.
This is absolutely NOTHING like that other AdWords book that I panned a few weeks ago (the one with FREE in its title). AdWords180 is a totally legitimate, but little-known method of optimizing your AdWords campaigns until your cost-per-click can be under a cent per click. And that, believe me, is cheap.
I’ve never seen anyone talk about this method before and even though the book has, apparently, been on sale for a couple of months, I’ve never seen it promoted. Perhaps I just missed seeing it, but I’m really glad I’ve found it now because my AdWords campaigns need some help!
Naturally I haven’t had time to put it to the test yet, but having read every word as critically as I can, I honestly can’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work at least as well as the author suggests.
This is nothing to do with trickery. There is no cheating. Google will actually love you for using this method as it is totally, 100% within the rules and will result in better results for them too!
I’m tempted to print it out and read it again on the train up to London, but if any of my fellow lunchers know I’ve got such a potent secret in my bag, I might just get mugged!

Every so often someone asks why most of my links are through urlnex.us
The reason is that sometimes I try to be too clever for my own good!
I wanted to have a domain that I could redirect all my links through. Something catchy and short.
The wordsmith in me came up with the idea that ‘nexus’ means ‘hub’ and would allow me to find a short 6-letter domain: urlnex - the .us being provided by the suffix.
It works for me, but most people don’t get the reference - or, indeed, see the point to it at all!
It would be nice to get rid of the www part. but I don’t know how to make that work consistently. If anyone can help me there, please get in touch!
I’m rather stuck with it now, but sometimes I wish I would remember to stick to the KISS principle a bit more often!

An Inspirational Thought
_______________________________________________________
Perception is the spark that often starts us on the road to success. We perceive that it possible.
Perspiration is the oil that keeps our wheels turning even when they start to seize up.
Persistence is the fuel that keeps out engine burning even when the journey seems impossible.
Performance is the wheel that steers our course - as long as we can perform the correct actions, our route will be true.
Personal is our destination. Only we can truly say to where we are journeying.
Perhaps you agree. That would be perfect.

The Quote of the Day

William Jennings Bryan said,
“The way to develop self confidence is to do the thing you fear and get a record of successful experiences behind you. Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.”

Today’s Power Thought

The book ‘The One Minute Millionaire’ by Mark Victor Hansen and Robert Allen is filled with great ideas and ‘Aha’ moments. If you haven’t read it yet, I can heartily recommend it.
One of the thoughts that it puts forward is that nobody gets successful without a system.
While I guess there are a few lucky souls who muddle into their success, most of us need a process to follow.
The book defines a system as
Save
Your
Self
Time
Energy
Money
Isn’t that a good mnemonic!
It exactly defines the reason why you need a system for everything that you do.
One of the key way-points on your journey to success is when you finally realize the power of systems and start to build your own. because make no mistake - I, or any other personal development coach, can tell you about the systems WE use, but the only systems that will always work for YOU are the ones that you have built for yourself.
The personal development ideas I write about in Kickstart can provide you with a guide, but you have to do a little of the work as well!
Many people make the mistake in Internet marketing by thinking that buying the latest ‘guru’s’ system will ensure their success. It probably won’t, unless you are prepared to break down the advice and then build it up again so it suits your own personality.
A question I’m often asked is whether anyone actually uses and profits from any of the myriad ideas that are constantly coming out in the latest books and reports. The truth is that I doubt that anyone who reads them has made a single one of the plans work EXACTLY AS WRITTEN.
But I am also willing to bet that there are many, many people who have take a bit of this plan, a bit of another, added a few wrinkles of their own and made a pretty good profit. I know because I’m one of them!
Success is highly personal thing. My definition of it is certainly different to yours. So why think that another person’s system for achieving THEIR success will automatically bring you YOURS?
Beg and borrow ideas from everyone around you. Look to see what systems successful people do use, but then adapt them for your own use.
