Friday August 3rd, 2007: Issue #829

The Simpsons movie is out now and although I haven’t seen it yet, I have been saying ‘Doh!’ to myself quite a bit in the last day.

When someone signs up as a subscriber to Kickstart I give away a couple ebooks that I have written as special bonuses. Or at least, I do to some people. If you’ve joined us in the last six months or so and didn’t get any bonuses, I apologize - blame it on my stupidity!

When I added the ExitGrabber script to the kickstartdaily.com site I took the opportunity to revise the tracking codes on the various signup forms. What I then found was that some of those forms were set to redirect new subscribers to the wrong thank-you page. So some people will have got the bonuses and some won’t.

Doh!

Let’s make this right.

The real thank-you page with the bonuses on it is http://www.kickstartdaily.com/subscribe.htm

You can go straight there and get the first ebook I ever wrote - an inspirational collection of 12 interviews with ‘ordinary’ people who make money online. You’ll also get to download an ebook of short stories and poems called ‘Time Out’ that I hope will give you a smile and a moment’s thought to help you unwind from the general stresses of the day.

I’ve corrected all the links now, so hopefully new subscribers won’t be left hanging!

Incidentally, I’ve added the ExitGrabber script to that thank-you page as well to see what happens. You see, it can be used in all kinds of different ways.

Exit Grabber - the program that gets in the face of people who are about to leave your website - seems to be working very well. I can already attribute quite a few new subscribers to it and it has virtually doubled the effectiveness of www.kickstartdaily.com

Delia said ‘Wouldn’t it be nice to redecorate the shower room.”

We moved into this house nearly five years ago and in that time we have totally remodeled it inside and out. New ceilings, new floors, even new joists under the floors, new plaster on many of the walls, new plumbing … pretty much everything. And most of it I’ve done myself. No wonder I’m old and tired!

But the smallest of our 13 rooms is the shower room and it hasn’t been touched.

Well, it worked okay.

Every man reading this will know that when your wife says ‘Wouldn’t it be nice …’, what she is REALLY saying is that you’d better get your checkbook and toolbox out right now or else you are not going to hear about anything else until you do.

And being a coward at heart, I got my toolbox out and prepared to hemorrhage money.

This little tiny room, barely seven feet by four, is costing more than almost any other room in the house apart from the kitchen!

And after several days re-running the plumbing, rewiring the electrics and the thousand other things that need to be done I’ve got aches and pains in places that a man of my age should even have anymore.

‘Wouldn’t it be nice, dear …?’

No, not really.

My friend Andy Henry has really started something.

Andy is a guy who likes to share his knowledge and gets a bit fed up with people packaging up what he considers as simple ideas into ebooks that sell for big bucks. He isn’t against people selling stuff, but he does seem to have an ‘open source’ mindset.

With that in mind he posted a challenge on the Warrior’s forum earlier in the week where he offered $50 of his own money to the person who posted the best (in Andy’s opinion) tip or strategy for online marketers.

He has done it before and the resulting threads have always been amazingly insightful and valuable.

This time though, even Andy was surprised at the response. One person after another offered to add their own money to the prize pot and swelled the kitty.

As of right now, there is $1675 up for grabs just for posting some good useful advice!

There will now be three prizes and Andy will make his decisions soon, so if you want to be in with a chance, get on over to Warriors and share your own tips.

Of course, even if you haven’t got anything to share, just reading that thread (and printing it out) will likely be the most valuable thing you can do for yourself today!

Well done Andy!

        An Inspirational Thought

A 19th century Jesuit priest called Anthony de Mello wrote a book called ‘One Minute Wisdom’ that upset the church. They didn’t like that it mixed Eastern and Western philosophies.

Here is a short quote from that book:

To the disciples who were always asking for words of wisdom the Master said, “Wisdom is not expressed in words. It reveals itself in action.”

But when he saw them plunge headlong into activity, he laughed aloud and said, “That isn’t action. That’s motion.”

    Today’s Power Thought

What are you going to do today?

People who study these things say that every single one of us will have over 30,000 thoughts today. That sounds amazing doesn’t it?

30,000 thoughts!

The only problem is that 99.9% of them will be the same thoughts that we had yesterday. And the day before.

They will be mundane, habitual thoughts like ‘I fancy a cup of coffee’ or ‘What can I eat tonight’ or ‘Where did I leave my keys?’

These habitual thoughts are programmed into our minds. We can’t stop ourselves from thinking them any more than we can stop breathing.

Don’t beat yourself up over them. Just accept.

But in accepting the mundane, why not make a positive attempt to raise the stakes?

If only 0.1% of your thoughts each day are likely to sparkle, why not light up the sky with them?

After all, 0.1% of 30,000 is still 30 fresh thoughts. 30 wonderfully new ideas for you to capture, mull over and dazzle yourself with!

The question I asked was ‘What are you going to do today?’

Are you going to do the same as yesterday and wonder why you keep getting the same results? Or, just for once, are you going to pay attention to your own brilliance and make today incandescent?

The fastest fish known is the Cosmopolitan Sailfish.

Once, a Sailfish caught on a line in Florida took out 91 metres (299 feet) of fishing line in just 3 seconds.

To save you the mental gymnastics, that works out to 68 miles per hour (109 kph).
