I think that today is a public holiday in America - so if you are there and still reading Kickstart, have a great day. Over here in the UK we had our day off last week.
It would make more sense if countries around the world synchronized their major public holidays. At least that way, the UK might get a few more!

I spent yesterday tiling my shower room. Today I feel as if I’ve been run over by a large truck. Sadly for me, I only half finished the job so despite the pain I’ve got to crack on and do some more as soon as I’ve done writing this.
Like all things that cause pain, it’ll be great when it’s over!

I don’t understand Amazon. If there are any successful Amazon affiliates out there who can explain it to me, I’d be very grateful!
On Friday I mentioned fellow Kickstarter Barrie Segal and his excellent real-world book about crazy parking tickets. I gave out an Amazon link.
Now, I have no idea if anyone bought the book, but I do know that at least 21 people followed the link to the Amazon page - because that’s how many emails I received from people about it.
Amazon, however, tell me that only 12 people clicked on the link.
Something is very odd with the stats and reinforces to me why I’ve never really bothered to promote Amazon before.

John Fox Kirk wrote to point out that the 10th way to say ‘ough’ that I reported on Friday - ‘ock’ as in Loughlin - is said differently in Scotland. There, it is pronounced the same was as loch. I don’t know how to write that phonetically, so I’ll just say that it sounds as if you are clearing your throat.
So now we have 11! Any more?

I read something this morning on a forum that made me wince.
The guy wrote to the effect that marketing Internet marketing products to newbies was for losers.
Spoken like a true idiot!
Absolute beginners in any market, Internet marketing included, are a great market. They are keen, motivated and anxious to learn.
The clever marketer will do everything he or she can to help them. The wise marketer will help them by recommending top class products and services that will help them succeed quickly - that way leads to loyalty.

One of the most successful UK Internet marketers is a guy who goes by the name of Michael Green. That is a pseudonym. In real life he is a Member of Parliament and the chairman of a multi-million pound printing business. Pretty good credentials!
Michael is very good at creating products that are easy to use, and which work. His latest is something very special indeed.
It is a system that promises to teach you, step-by-step how he made $20,000 in 20 days.
Although I haven’t yet seen the full product (it isn’t launched yet), I have seen the outline and the daily action plan. It is very good stuff.
Incredibly, Michael makes a guarantee that if you fail to make $20,000 in 20 days after following his plan, he will refund every penny of the cost of the course. You can’t get much more confident than that.
Many courses like this are thinly-disguised ads for a range of extra products you have to buy to make the system work. That can vastly multiply the cost to you. but Michael Green’s 20/20 course isn’t like that. He tells me that the only things you’ll need to spend money on are a domain name and hosting. Probably less than $20 if you don’t already have them.
The product is in pre-launch phase right now, which means that you can buy it at a huge discount. After launch day, if there are any left (only a set number will be sold) the price will double.
What would you do with an extra $20,000 in your bank account in few short week’s time? Let’s compare note because I certainly plan to find out!

An Inspirational Thought
_______________________________________________________
There is a Buddhist mental trick that can often come to the rescue in times when you are lost for an answer.
When a problem is in front of you and your mind is refusing to come up with a solution, try this:
Close your eyes, calm your thoughts and count yourself backwards from 5 to 1. As you count, imagine yourself entering a deep, dark, quiet place where all your memories are stored.
Bring you problem into focus and tell yourself that you know the answer, you just have to remember it.
Speak inside your mind to that subconscious place and tell it that the answer is buried in your memories and that it should drop everything else and go off to find it.
That’s all you do.
Now count yourself back to the present, put your problem to one side and get on with other things.
Your mind will now work on the assumption that you DO know the answer rather than panic that you don’t.
In time, at an unexpected moment, a solution will pop into your head. And when it does, take note. It is almost certain to be right.

Today’s Power Thought
_______________________________________________________
In the old days, doctors would attempt to improve the health of their patients by bleeding them. It was thought that too much blood was a bad thing and releasing some would keep the patient’s in good health.
It seems horrific now, but at one time it was quite commonplace.
Don’t worry, today’s action point isn’t to go out and buy yourself a leech!
But I am going to borrow from those old doctors.
The idea that our lives can start go wrong because of a build up of pressure is quite right. Not pressure of too much blood, perhaps, but too many responsibilities, too much stress, too many worries, too much ’stuff’.
We can’t do everything today, but we can make a great start on relieving the pressure by clearing out our ’stuff’.
How much ’stuff’ have you filed away? I know that my own files are overflowing with things that ‘might come in handy’ but never will. Today I’m going to be ruthless. If I haven’t looked at a file for more than a year I will do one of two things:
Trash it
or Archive it.
What it won’t do anymore is sit in my office taking up space and draining me emotionally.
I suggest that you do the same.
And why stop with files?
What about clearing all those desktop icons that build up on your monitor screen? Or sorting out all those favorites in your browser that you’ll NEVER visit again?
Or all that ’stuff’ that surrounds your computer (yes I know, we are all the same), the wires, the disks, the papers, the post-its, the books and pens and boxes of tissues? Sort them out. Take charge of your space and feel the pressure start to bleed away.
Madame de Maintenon, the wife of King Louis XIV was so afraid that the rude stories told by her courtiers would cause her to blush that she had her court physician bleed her twice a week.
You don’t need to go to such lengths to spare your blushes, just take control of the ’stuff’ in your own life.

Birmingham, in England’s Midlands region, has more miles of canal than Venice.
It isn’t as pretty though.
