Wednesday October 17th, 2007: Issue #852

I thought I was taking a long time to get moving in the mornings lately, but my poor old PC seems to be going for the record.

It is seriously unwell. Whenever I have to turn it off for a while, turning it back on is a mammoth task. On my Compaq, the first thing you get when you turn on the power is a black screen with a big red Compaq logo. That stays open for a few seconds to give you a chance to enter the BIOS setup and then the normal Windows startup process begins.

Lately those ‘few seconds’ have been getting longer and longer. Last night I had to wait 16 minutes! Now that certainly isn’t normal behavior.

While the computer is waiting, the keyboard doesn’t respond (in other words, although I’m invited to enter the BIOS setup, I can’t) and the LED that displays hard disk activity remains dark. There is no sound from the hard disk either, so to all intents and purposes, nothing seems to be happening.

After its long period of cogitation, Windows opens up perfectly normally and the PC appear to run fine.

I’ve tried Googling the problem, but the only vague clue was the BIOS battery may be wearing out, but that would also cause the system clock to lose time, which it isn’t.

If you have any idea what could be going on here, I’d love to hear from you.

My trip to America is fast approaching. We fly out for the business part of the trip to Salt Lake City next Thursday and then head south to Las Vegas (for the fun part) via the beautiful Southern Utah Canyons (Bryce and Zion) on Saturday.

I’ll be in Las Vegas for three days, including Halloween. If you are in the Las Vegas vicinity and would like to meet up for a drink and a chat drop me a line!

Well, PLRproEbooks sold out shortly after I sent the reminder email yesterday evening. There is now a waiting list so if you didn’t get in this time, join the list and hopefully you’ll be found a place sometime soon.

A few people have emailed me with suggestions that I should write in Kickstart about how you can make money from private label ebooks. While I agree that a tutorial is a good idea, I should point out that I have written a whole book on the subject: Unlock the Secrets of Private Label eBooks. You can get a copy from http://www.plrsecrets.com for the normal price of $39, but if you are a member of Michael Green’s excellent ‘How to Make $20,000 in 20 Days’ course, just pop over the the private forum and you’ll find a post by me offering a free copy of my book to everyone who is in the program.

That unadvertised bonus is, in itself, a great incentive to join the 2020 course even if the prospect of making thousands of dollars in 20 days doesn’t appeal!

Michael Green’s 2020 course goes much further into the specifics of making private label ebooks the basis of your online business and tells you exactly what you have to do every day to make money from them.

Michael’s course is still being sold at half price for a very short while longer, so if you have joined PLRproEbooks and are now looking to make the very best use of your investment, the 2020 course is right up your street.

My daughter Lauren is making a pop video for her Media Studies examination coursework. One of the scenes involves the lead character emerging from a coffin (don’t ask!).

She has built the coffin out of cardboard and has stored it in our spare bedroom.

Last night I was coughing so much that I thought I’d go and sleep in the spare room to avoid disturbing Delia, but in my bleary sleepiness I’d forgotten all about the coffin!

So in the dark I stumbled into the spare room and almost tripped head over toe into the bloody thing.

Coffin’ in the coffin would have been way too much of a cliché!

The prospect of that freaked me out so much that I crept back to bed with Delia.

Famous first words.

One of the biggest worries that people have is how to open a conversation with a stranger. We agonize over what we should say, and how to avoid looking dumb.

Yet, the truth is that it almost doesn’t matter what you say. On first contact, 80% or more of the communication, for both men and women, is non-verbal.

Don’t fret about your words, concern yourself instead with your attitude and demeanor.

Whatever you say, say it with confidence, friendliness and positivity and you won’t go far wrong.

The more I read about successful people the more puzzled I become.

Why is it that those few people ‘get it’ when the vast majority of the rest of the world neither get it, nor even have any idea what ‘it’ is in the first place.

What drives a person to send a book to 100 different publishers before finally getting a acceptance?

What motivates a person whose business plan has been rejected by 22 banks in a row?

What keeps a person interested when everyone around them keeps saying what a daft idea they’ve had?

Yet there are mega-successful entrepreneurs everywhere in the world who have ignored all these obstacles and many more.

What keeps them going?

I suppose a lot of it boils down to having an absolute self-belief.

We can talk about taking action, setting goals, managing time, learning sales techniques and all the rest of that personal and business development stuff until the cows come home. But unless it is built on a firm foundation of self belief, none of it is going to have much effect in the long term.

Success needs confidence to grow.

So when you get right down to it, the first thing that you should be working on is building your own self- confidence to the point where no matter how many knockbacks you receive, your shiny armor of belief in yourself remains undented.

When you truly believe that you are right and that you can do what you want to achieve, your focus will be on the end destination and not on the little potholes that block your path from time to time.
