Greetings!
Do you suffer from CPS? That stands for the ‘Cleverest Person
Syndrome’ and means that you are so sure that you are the best
qualified, most experienced, trustworthy and efficient person to
do a particular task that you can’t conceive of the notion of
asking anyone else for help.
You may indeed be the cleverest person, and all of your
suppositions about your many and various attributes may indeed be
correct, but if you suffer from CPS you are more often than not
doomed to failure – or worse, mediocrity.
In 1951, Francis Crick and James Watson discovered the secret of
life. They began to unravel he structure of DNA.
They were clever researchers, certainly, but by their own
admission they were by no means the most intelligent people
working on the problem. Some very big intellects around the world
were studying the subject, but it took two self-styled
middle-of-the-road scientists to crack it.
Some years later, James Watson admitted to this in an interview
and went on to say that the most intelligent person working on
the problem at the time was a British scientist called Rosalind
Franklin. However, in Watson’s view, he and Crick were able to
beat her to the prize because “Rosalind was so intelligent that
she rarely sought advice.”
That’s CPS.
It is so easy to assume that you can succeed on your own –
especially if you have got used to being brighter than other
people, or more able to learn new ideas. But ultimately, however
clever we are, we are inherently limited.
I’ve been guilty of trying to do it all myself far too often, but
now I have finally come to realize that other people’s input is
very often the missing piece of the puzzle that has held me back.
In a formal sense, mastermind groups are so useful because they
force you to listen to other people’s opinions and ideas. They
open up a window into a wealth of additional experiences that
would be impossible for one person to AMAss alone.
Of course, formal mastermind groups are not for everyone, but
everyone can benefit from the minds of others in an informal
setting. Just get on the phone to a friend and chat through what
you are working on – and be sure to do the same for them.
You’d be AMAzed at how quickly completely new solutions will
start to flow your way.
You might not make a discovery as momentous as DNA, but you will
be sure to move towards the success you desire and deserve a
whole lot faster than you ever would alone.

Today’s Kickstart will have to be fairly short because my eye
strain has flared up again.
I suspect that the only way it is going to improve is if I keep
away from the computer completely for a while – not a very
satisfactory prospect for an Internet marketer!
Luckily I have a vacation booked in a few week’s time and will be
pretty much forced to keep away from my computers – their is no
broadband connection on the cruise ship we will be sailing on,
just an Internet cafe, which will no doubt be difficult to find a
spot in.
Two weeks away from computers is a frightening prospect for an
addict like me, but it will probably do me the world of good.

Isn’t it odd how things happen.
Now that our pond is nearly finished, we are starting to put some
plants in it. Fish will come later, but we were only saying
yesterday that some wildlife would be nice.
This morning, Delia went out to go shopping, and there on our
front drive was a baby newt!
Goodness knows where it came from, or even if it will survive,
but it has now been introduced to our pond, where we can only
hope it will make a home.
Serendipity? Synchonicity? Or Manifestation?
Who knows. Some things are best not to question.

As an Internet marketer there are lots of things I know I should
be doing, but don’t ever seem to get around to.
One of those things is to ‘do something about’ the 404 errors
that my sites get.
Let me explain. There are all kinds of reasons why you pages
won’t load when a visitor tries to access them. When a failure
happens, your server generates what is known as a 404 error.
(There are lots of different error codes that mean different
things, but the 404 one is the most common.)
The most common reason for a 404 error happening is if someone
types an incorrect address.
Now I’ve know for years that I can put a page up on my sites that
will be shown to anybody who sets off a 404 error, but I’ve never
got round to it.
Surely, I thought to myself, it isn’t that big a deal.
Today I read a very interesting thread on the Warrior’s Forum. So
interesting that I even bookmarked it.
http://www.warriorforum.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=258619
It sparked my curiosity and I went to my stats for the
http://imkickstart.com site. I’ve never really taken much notice
of the section in my stats program about error codes and how
often they are triggered, but today I did. Ouch!
36.3% of the total hits to my site so far this month have
resulted in a 404: Document not found error!
That’s over a third of my total traffic wasted.
Creating a page to show people who trigger a 404 error is easy –
and may well prove to be a great way to recycle the otherwise
lost visitors – or to show them ads that might increase my
profits.
I can’t believe it has taken so long for the penny to drop. Doh!
Guess what is #1 on my action list for today?

A few months I reviewed a book called Licensed to Quit, by Tony
Shepherd and Sara Browne. I said at the time that I thought it
was well-written and easily understood, but most importantly of
all, it described a very real and practical process that could
free you of your dependence on a *job*.
I read an awful lot of ebooks and frankly, an awful lot of them
are … awful. So it was really good to be able to wholeheartedly
recommend Tony and Sara’s really excellent book.
The book is still available and still very much worth reading –
and applying. You can get more information about it here:
http://www.sara-brown.com/invitation
One Kickstart reader who did buy it was John Hillage. John, you
may remember, is the author of another excellent ebook that I
recommended rather more recently: ‘The Proven Internet Profit
System For Making Money Online’ in which he reveals how he made
$3284.34 in 30 days from just one of his niche websites.
John, it turns out, is living the ‘Licensed to Quit’ model. He is
following the plan in that book, and making quite a success of
it.
You can learn more about John’s ‘Proven Profits’ here:
http://www.urlnex.us/provenprofits/
As a fine example of how John is putting the Licensed to Quit
system to work for him, he has just released a free report called
‘How to Make $638 in 60 Minutes’.
It is an excellent read and well worth spending some time
studying. You can get you copy from John at

The Quote of the Day
______________________________________________________
Mark Twain said,
“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small
people always do that, but the really great make you feel that
you, too, can become great.”

Today’s Power Thought
_____________________________________________________
When we set our goals, it is natural to aim for the summit. We
look for the highest point that we can imagine.
That’s wonderful – all achievers have a clear vision of their
ultimate target – but it is only a part of the goal-setting
process.
A true goal, one that has any chance of being realized, comes in
two parts:
1. The top of the stairs 2. The next step.
Imagine a person with arthritis looking up at a flight of stairs.
The task is immense. The flight of stairs may as well be a
mountain.
But the first step isn’t so bad. Grip the handrail and haul – not
too difficult, not too painful.
The second step is just as easy as the first one – and so on all
the way up.
Pretty soon, the top is reached, but it wasn’t a mountain climbed
- it was twelve simple steps.
Every goal that you set should stretch you beyond where you are
right now. It should be something that is beyond your current
abilities to reach IN ONE STEP.
But right underneath where you’ve written down that huge
objective, you must also write down the first step that you will
take on that journey.
It is like pulling on a rope. To begin with you can’t clearly see
what is tied on to the other end. You know it’s there, because
the rope is heavy, but all you can see is a shadowy outline.
With each pull on the rope the outline becomes more and more
distinct until it is right there in front of you. All you have to
do then is reach out and grab it.
So don’t forget when you write down your goals – they come in
pairs: the big leap and the little step. And in many ways, the
little step is the more important.
