Greetings !
It seems to me that movie critics who work for newspapers, radio
and TV stations spend so long thinking about what cutting
comments they are going to make about the films they are watching
that they miss half of what is going on.
Either that or they are lobotomized as a job requirement.
I read several reviews of the new James Bond movie and judging
from them, it was a confused mess that bore no relation to the
James Bond ethos. Among the comment I read …
* There are no ‘love’ scenes.
* There are no gadgets.
* Half the plot had been edited out so the movie didn’t make
sense.
* The title never gets explained.
* The direction was choppy and unfathomable.
I take it back … those reviewers clearly weren’t thinking about
something else while they watched Quantum of Solace - they
weren’t watching it at all. I’d guess they had too much vino at
the pre-launch party and nodded off.
As I’m sure you’ve guessed, we went to see Quantum of Solace last
night and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Taking the critics objections in turn:
Yes, he does get the girl - and a very fine young lady ‘Fields’
is too!
Yes, there are gadgets. Not in the ‘Q’ tradition, perhaps, but
his phone is pretty neat, and the computer equipment that M uses
is quite something.
As for the movie not making sense, I’m simply baffled. The plot
held together for me and I never once wondered what was going on.
I will say, however, that if you hadn’t seen Casino Royale, then
you certainly would be mystified.
The title means ‘a little bit of peace’ and that is the theme of
the entire film. So someone wasn’t paying attention! Also, the
word Quantum gets another meaning in the final scene.
And as for the direction - well, it is a James Bond movie. Fast
action and quick cuts are what you expect. This one was no
different.
All in all, we loved the movie. Sure, it isn’t a traditional
Bond, but it is nice to see the franchise moving into the 21st
century.
I will say this - Quantum of Solace isn’t really a fully-fledged
story in its own right. It is actually Casino Royale Part 2. The
movie begins an hour or two after the last film ends and makes
continual references to characters and plot lines from the
earlier story. Don’t bother to go and see it if you haven’t seen
Casino Royale recently because then you WILL get confused.
I’m a big James Bond fan, and think that Daniel Craig is one of
the best Bonds that have ever graced our screens, so perhaps I’m
biased. In a way, this latest episode seemed to more of an
interim film than a stand-alone tale. It closes the door on the
Bond of the past and sets the scene for things to come - and the
introduction of the shadowy SPECTRE-like organization allows for
some interesting new storylines for the future.
A good movie for Bond fans - but watch Casino Royale on DVD
before you go.

Friday’s Kickstart was filled with mis-typed URLs! My fingers
were typing way faster than my mind can think and accuracy
suffered! Thanks to everyone who pointed the mistakes out to me
so I could correct them in the archived version.
#~#~#
The main casualties were the links in the piece I wrote about my
Info Product Killer sites. The correct link for my first toy site
should, of course, have been http://www.babybornmagicpotty.info -
not, as I typed, .com!
Also the link to the sales page for Info Product Killer is
http://www.urlnex.us/ipk/
I’ve been very encouraged to see that the Baby Born site has now
climbed to #4 in Google for the primary keyword: Baby Born Magic
Potty - out of 173,000 results. Not bad at all!
With my busy weekend schedule, I didn’t have much time on the
computer, but I did manage to get one new site built and
uploaded: http://www.dancemat.info in which I’m experimenting
with a graphical menu bar as opposed to the regular text-only
one. We’ll see how that goes. (Sorry about the eye-wateringly
shocking pink background. I might change that!)
I’ve also been asked about hosting for these websites.
My recommendation is to use HostGator -
http://www.urlnex.us/hostgator - because they offer a very
reasonable, well-specified plan and have (in my experience) good
and helpful support. The ‘Baby’ plan (which is $9.95 per month if
you pay monthly, but cheaper if you block-pay in advance) is more
than adequate for your IPK needs and should allow you to house a
good many IPK sites.
I have both a ‘Baby’ account and a ‘Reseller’ account with
HostGator and like them so much that I’m gradually transferring
all my domains on other hosts to one or other of them.

The next London Lunch - Friday November 28th - is almost sold
out.
We are strictly limited to 30 places this time (because it is the
beginning of the Christmas season) and at last count 25 of them
are now taken.
If you want to be sure of being able to attend, please send me
your £30 by PayPal to m.avis@ntlworld.com right away. I can’t
hold places for anyone who hasn’t paid - that wouldn’t be fair.
And once the 30-seat limit has been reached, I will have to, very
regretfully, turn you away.
(I will probably open a waiting list in case anyone drops out,
but you can’t bank on getting in that way!)

Here is a sobering thought.
The computer protection company Sophos has published a report in
which they estimate that an unprotected PC has a 50% chance of
being infected with a virus, spyware, trojan or other malicious
infection within just 12 minutes!
Make sure your firewall and virus protection is up to date.

Today’s Power Thought
_____________________________________________________
If I were to ask you, right now, to think about the outcome of
whatever you are doing today, what would be your thoughts?
Would you think something like ‘This is going to go really well;
I am going to make a great job of this; Everyone is going to
think really highly of me.’
Or would you think ‘I’m going to make a real mess of this; I can
never get things really right; Everyone is going to think I’m
dumb - as always.’
Two extremes, and probably your thoughts will fall somewhere
between them.
But why settle for anything less than that first way of thinking?
Whatever you consistently think, is who you will become.
At first 100% positive thinking is difficult - but the more you
practice, the easier it becomes. Why? Because you soon learn that
the more positive your belief in the outcome, the more likely a
positive outcome becomes.
Just believe that you CAN achieve, that you ARE a success, that
things WILL go your way and pretty soon, experience will prove
you right.

We tend to think of witches as being a female preserve, but
records show that between the year 1450 and 1750, 60,000
suspected witches were executed in Europe - a quarter of whom
were men.

I agree with your comments concerning Hostgator - I have had a reseller account for 3 years now and I endorse you recommendation.
Also concerning IPK, I thank you for your comments (private email) and advice concerning my first site http://www.inthenightgardenupsydaisy.com/
