I saw two interesting things on TV yesterday. The first was an
interview with Alastair Darling, the British Chancellor of the
Exchequer, and supposedly the man who will guide us out of
recession.
What a poor show he gave. He evaded questions, pretended he’d
answered things that he hadn’t, tried to shift the focus from his
own lack of coherent policies to what he wants us to think the
opposition parties stand for and generally looked very
uncomfortable.
The man looked like someone who knows he is on a hiding to
nothing, but can’t stop spouting the party line for fear of
upsetting his boss. And that is exactly what he is.
The other program was a lecture by Prince Charles about the
future of the planet and the need for all of us to apply joined
up thinking to square up the needs of our economic systems with
the needs of the planet’s natural systems.
I must say that I was very impressed with what he said, but even
more by the compelling way he said it.
Here was a man who clearly had the facts at his fingertips and
the communication skills to put his points across. I thought he
was an excellent public speaker.
It is people like Alastair Darling who have presided over send
the world to hell in a handbasket, but it will be people like
Prince Charles who begin the process of guiding us towards a
better way.
As the Prince said, there is no choice. Either we face up to the
fact that in future we have to change the way we use our planet,
or our planet will change beyond our ability to use it at all.
And then we will have no future.

I’ve just got back from my doctor and have been told that he
wants me to see a laproscopic surgeon to poke a camera inside of
me to find out what has been causing some odd abdominal pains
I’ve been getting for years. It really doesn’t sound like fun,
but I guess if it allows them to find out what the problem is
after all this time, I’ll have to put up with the discomfort!
I just hope they put me to sleep before they do it!

looks so different now to when she appeared in the UK TV series
London’s Burning 20 years ago.
We all change, but her appearance is drAMAtically different!
Well, problem solved. No, she hasn’t had radical surgery – the
London’s Burning actress was her half-sister SAMAntha Beckinsale.
